AMERICORPS ENCORE 55+

AmeriCorps is not just for young adults. Our AmeriCorps Encore program engages Adults 55+ to serve in exciting ways.

Boomers Leading Change is home for the only AmeriCorps Encore program in Colorado.

AmeriCorps was created to provide opportunities to serve our country. And, while most AmeriCorps programs attract young adults, in 2009 Congress reauthorized the program and opened the doors for people 55 and over to serve.

Our AmeriCorps Encore program trains and supports adults 55+ in making a yearlong commitment to provide direct services aimed at improving the health and access to health care in communities with the greatest needs. They begin by attending an expert-led, 30-hour Health Care Navigator training course. Over the next 11 months, AmeriCorps Encore members provide 900 hours of service – about 20 hours per week – at one of our nonprofit host sites. AmeriCorps Encore members receive a modest living allowance and an educational stipend. We work to match the skills and interests of each member to the needs of the host site.

In our first six years, AmeriCorps Encore  members served over 115,000 hours and 43,000 clients.

We are always looking for more people who are interested in this highly rewarding opportunity to help improve the health and well-being of individuals, families and the greater community. Recruitment for our AmeriCorps Encore program occurs during the spring and summer prior to the beginning of the service year, which runs from early October to the end of August.
