TRAINING FOR BOOMERS LEADING CHANGE VOLUNTEERS, EXPERIENCED ENGAGED FELLOWS AND THE BLC PARTNERSHIP NETWORK ONLY!
Boomers Leading Change’s Volunteer Training has been developed and is facilitated by experts in the community. It does not matter in which order you take the four required modules and each module will be offered 2-3 times per year. You as the volunteer will then be able to apply your real world experience in the field to the skills, strategies and information provided in the four modules.
Please join us for Health Navigator and Community Worker Training Module 4 Motivational Interviewing presented by Marla Corwin LCSW CACIII.
In this class we will focus on the importance of creating a safe environment of rapport and respect for your clients. It is a collaborative approach that focuses on the clients strengths, goals and desires in making positive change.
Goals for the class:
- Describe Motivational Interviewing as a strengths-based form of communication
Explain how affirmations and empathy are the “relationship builders” between client and helper
Describe how arguing can sow discord between helper and client
Explain the acronym OARS and demonstrate its use
Explain the acronym LURE and its use as a fall-back tool when you and the client seem “stuck”
Discuss change talk and sustain talk as two sides of the same coin (ambivalence)
Discuss what action you take when the organization’s and client’s agendas differ
This module will be held Monday March 23 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Community First Foundation 5855 Wadsworth Bypass Unit A Arvada, CO.
